In this article, I’ll talk about the top 6 types of glue for glass to wood and guide you on how to use them properly.
Most DYI projects have to do with glass and wood. That’s when you have to use good glue for a good job.
To bond glass to wood, you need a special type of glue resistant to high temperatures and high tensile strength.
The stickiness needs to be top-tier, as well. Otherwise, the glue won’t stand the test of time.
Recommendation – Gorilla Super Glue Gel is a fantastic glass-to-plastic glue that dries in approximately 30 seconds. The glue is both weatherproof and waterproof, and its bonding strength is superb.
Below, you’ll find out more about various types of glass-to-wood glues, how to apply them, and a list of 6 types of glue you can choose!
Types of Glues for Glass to Wood
When gluing glass to wood, you can choose between multiple types of glue. Not all are the same, though.
Some are great for small-scale projects, while others are specialized for construction jobs:
Epoxy Glues
The best type of glue for glass to wood is epoxy. Despite the long bonding and curing time (about a day), the bond itself is strong.
They’re just as good for small-scale gigs as large platforms and projects.
Because of their high resistance to extreme weather conditions, epoxy glues are often used in airplane repairs and construction.
If we trust epoxies with airplanes, surely, we can trust it with anything else.
Epoxies emit a toxic smell upon release, though. I recommend wearing a mask and gloves when applying it.
Cyanoacrylates
Cyanoacrylate glues, commonly known as super glues, are famous for their quick drying time.
In a few seconds, a super glue dries and sets in. For glass-to-wood jobs, super glues are one of the most fitting glues out there.
However, super glue is very sensitive to quantity. You need to use just the right amount to have the best results.
Too much or too little super glue and the materials will not bond perfectly.
Also, try to keep freshly glued materials away from extreme heat.
Polyurethane
Polyurethane works best on slippery materials and fills up holes or cracks in glass or wood.
Upon application, polyurethane expands and covers a sizeable portion of the material, making it perfect for repairs.
Remember that some glues aren’t suitable to glue glass to wood, such as liquid nails, silicone glue, regular glass glue, hot glue, polyurethane glue, PVA glue, tacky glue, and some silicone sealant and some craft glue.
Best Glues for Glass to Wood
Check out below my recommendations for the best glue for glass to wood.
1. Devcon High Strength 5 Minute Epoxy

Devcon epoxy formula creates a resilient bond that will outlast most extreme weather conditions and degradation factors.
This glue is waterproof and can resist temperatures between -40 and 200 degrees F.
It bonds easily to the following materials:
- Stone
- Fiberglass
- Ceramics
- Glass
- Wood
- Concrete
- China
- Metals
Devcon High Strength, 5 Minute Epoxy, dries clearly, though it cures into a yellow color if exposed to sunlight.
It may also cause skin irritation if it touches the skin, so I recommend wearing gloves when working with it.
This is also a great option if you need glue for marble.
2. PC Super Epoxy Quick Setting Double Syringe
Pros
- Great option to glue wood to glass
- Great for fixing broken glass
- Waterproof
- Dries clear
Cons
- Can irritate eyes and skin
This double-syringe glue contains a nice applicator that greatly improves application accuracy.
Though, you’ll need an injector tool for proper application. Once you get the hang of it, PC Super Proxy may become your favorite epoxy glue.
It applies easily, it has a quick-drying and bonding time, and it’ll bond to a wide range of materials, including:
- Brick
- Concrete
- Block
- Wood
- Metals
- Glass
- Ceramics
Once fully cured (3-7 days), the glue can be painted over, sawed, sanded, and even drilled without breaking the bond.
I think PC Super Proxy is the best buy for glass-to-wood projects.
3. Gorilla Glue Clear
Pros
- It is a clear glue, so optimal for broken glass
- Water resistant
- Bonds with most material
Cons
- Requires clamp for curing
- Not heat resistant
This adhesive brand is water-resistant and temperature-resistant. As a Gorilla Glue, this adhesive has a high tensile strength that works perfectly for bonding glass to wood.
It can bond ceramic, stone, metal, foam, and more.
Thanks to the applicator tip, Gorilla Glue Clear makes it easy to apply on any material, porous or non-porous.
However, you may need to clamp the materials for proper curing.
It may also become pliable if exposed to heat for too long.
Gorilla Glue Clear can also be used as glue for mirrors.
4. J-B Weld 8276 KwikWeld Quick Setting Reinforced Epoxy
Pros
- Good for gluing glass to wood
- Temperature resistant
- Can be painted over
Cons
- Not clear after drying
Trying to glue glass back together is a losing battle with most glues. But J-B Weld is different.
This adhesive sets quickly and can withstand temperatures of over 230 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once cured, you can paint over it, drill it, sand it, tap it, and otherwise work it however you want to.
The bond will outlast most degradation factors, as well. J-B Weld needs to be mixed before application, though.
This adhesive is toxic to the touch. But mixing the two substances is very easy. Wear a pair of gloves while doing it, though.
5. Loctite Epoxy Instant Mix
Pros
- Solvent resistant
- Waterproof
- High impact resistance
- Bonds to most materials
Cons
- Nozzle can clog between uses
A waterproof glue resistant to solvents, has a high-impact resistance, and can be drilled, sanded, and painted over once cured.
Loctite Epoxy Instant Mix is that glue. This adhesive can easily bond:
- Wood
- Glass
- Most plastics
- Ceramics
- Metal
Most Loctite products have good tensile strength and offer a solid bond with a long lifespan.
Epoxy Instant Mix is no different, fortunately. The double-syringe applicator requires you to mix the adhesive before use, but it’s not a problem.
The glue may become clogged in the nozzle after using it. It’s not difficult to unclog it, though.
Loctite Epoxy Instant Mix can be used as glue for fabric to wood.
6. Krazy Glue Maximum Bond
Pros
- High temperature resistance
- Comes with no-clog tip
- Dries very fast
Cons
- Can irritate skin and eyes
This one is super glue coming from a famous brand. It’s a fast-drying and temperature-resistant adhesive that will do a good job at bonding glass to wood.
Though a super glue, it’ll also easily bind to the skin.
The extended applicator tip allows for an easy and accurate application, allowing you to finish the job instantly.
It won’t clog after use, either. Krazy Glue can be used for:
- Plastics
- Glass
- Wood
- Rubber
- Metal
- Leather
- Ceramics
Once cured, the bond is shock-resistant and impact-resistant, so it should be able to last for a few years without problems.
How to Glue Glass to Wood and Safety Precautions
Using super glue or an epoxy like Devcon High Strength 5 Minute Epoxy will make everything easier.
But before you glue anything, ensure the work areas are squeaky clean and free of debris.
Now, apply glue to both surfaces and clamp them together. Once clamped, leave the materials alone so the glue can cure. It’s as simple as that
As for safety precautions, here they are:
- Keep the respiratory mask on your face at all times. Wood glues are generally toxic, and breathing the fumes is not a good idea
- Stay in a ventilated area for extra safety against glue toxicity
- Wear industrial gloves and protective goggles when maneuvering the glue. If the glue touches your skin, it may irritate it.
- When you’re not using the glue, keep the container covered or closed
- Don’t spread the wood glue over large areas. Do it in small increments and carefully cover both materials before clamping them together.
Wrap Up
It’s not difficult to glue glass to wood, but you need the proper glue for the job.
In my experience, Devcon High Strength 5 Minute Epoxy performed best in small-scale and large-scale projects.
The tensile strength reaches 1500 PSI and is resistant to high temperatures, water, and other stressful factors.
