How To Glue A Jigsaw Puzzle Together For Mounting?

To glue a jigsaw puzzle together for mounting, you will need:

  • Glue that will dry clear (and not with a white or yellow or any other coloring)
  • Brush or plastic card
  • Wax paper

It isn’t hard to glue a jigsaw puzzle for mounting with the right tools, and once you know the steps to take to achieve this.

Keep reading to find out the steps to glue a jigsaw puzzle that will be strong enough to be mounted on the wall without issues.

How To Glue A Jigsaw Puzzle Together For Mounting

Find a working desk or surface that is even and flat without any bumps.

You must choose glue that dries clear to avoid a white or yellow coating over your puzzle, ruining its image.

Now that you have prepared all the necessary tools, follow these steps:

  1. Place wax paper over your working surface, bigger than your jigsaw puzzle put together
  2. Place your jigsaw puzzle over the wax paper – this will prevent any excess glue from getting on your desk surface
  3. Pour enough glue on the puzzle to cover it fully once you spread it out
  4. Use a brush or a plastic card (such as an old credit card) to spread the glue evenly
  5. Let the glue dry fully

We must flip the puzzle to repeat the same steps on the other side.

  1. Use a cardboard or a cutting board to slide the puzzle onto and flip it safely.
  2. Apply the glue on this side of the puzzle and use a brush or another tool to easily and evenly spread it
  3. Wait for enough time for the glue to fully dry and bond

The following steps will guide you on how to add the board for mounting.

  1. Measure the board to the puzzle and mark where you need to cut
  2. Cut the board slightly smaller than the width and length of your jigsaw puzzle so it won’t show once you mount it on the wall
  3. Place your puzzle so that the front part is facing down
  4. Apply glue to the board
  5. Use a brush to spread the glue evenly, leaving the very edge of the board clear of glue (as when you press the board and puzzle together, that will expand the glue a bit further)
  6. Attach the board to the puzzle
  7. Gently press it down, making sure it is even
  8. Use heavier objects to place over and board and keep them there until the glue fully cures, for at least 24 hours.
  9. After this, your jigsaw puzzle is ready to be mounted

Conclusion

You can glue a jigsaw puzzle together for mounting in a few easy steps:

  1. Apply glue to the front side of the puzzle
  2. Spread it evenly
  3. Wait for it to dry
  4. For a more secure hold, you can apply a second thin layer of glue
  5. Wait for this to fully dry and cure
  6. Measure your puzzle and cut out the board to be smaller than the puzzle – this way, it won’t show.
  7. Apply the glue to the board and attach it to the puzzle
  8. Use objects that will weigh the board onto the puzzle until the glue fully cures
