How to Get Eyelash Glue Off?

Eyelash glue can be removed through several methods:

  • Use a waterproof eye makeup remover
  • Dissolve the glue with common oil (coconut or extra virgin olive oil)
  • Steam off the eyelash glue with boiling water
  • Use a lash glue dissolver
  • Take a hot shower
  • Apply eye cream (containing sunflower, jojoba, argan, or other oils)

Any one of these solutions will get the eyelash glue off the eyelids. If you’re not a fan of makeup remover, try the other solutions.

Below, we’ll go into more detail for each of these solutions, so keep reading to find out more!

How to Get Eyelash Glue Off?
  1. Take a shower

This is the simplest way to get the eyelash glue off your eyelid without a makeup remover.

The hot water will loosen the eyelash extensions and moisten the glue. Eventually, it’ll fall off by itself.

But don’t try plugging your eyelashes off when you’re in the shower.

This can damage your natural eyelashes and irritate your skin. The moistened glue may also get into your eyes by mistake.

After you shower, use a pair of tweezers to remove your eyelashes slowly.

By now, the glue will come off very easily, allowing you to remove it from your eye skin.

  1. Use hot steam to get the eyelash glue off your eyelashes

This is the same as taking a shower but faster.

Boil some water into a bowl and then lean with your face over the bowl.

Make sure you don’t have any makeup on, except for your eyelashes.

A secret trick is putting a towel over your head so the steam is trapped there with you.

Do this for 3-5 minutes but don’t put your face too close to the water bowl. You don’t want to burn your skin.

Another trick is setting a timer, so you don’t steam your face for too long or too little.

After steaming your eyelashes, you must pull them off from the outer corner.

You’ll know if the glue has weakened enough if your eyelashes come off quickly.

If there’s more residual glue on your lid, remove it with a damp towel or your fingers.

When you’re done, wash your face with cool water and apply a moisturizer. The steam has opened your pores, and you need to close them!

A word of warning – don’t use this method more than once a week because it’ll irritate your skin and make it more sensitive.

  1. Use a lash glue dissolver.

A lash glue dissolver can get the eyelash glue off your lashes easier than most other products.

It loosens the eyelashes and dissolves the glue in a matter of minutes.

It’s also safe for eye care and won’t damage your pores, skin, or natural eyelashes.

Soak a cotton pad in the glue dissolver and apply it to the lashes.

Don’t get it into your eyes, though. Apply consistently across the eyelid and pay attention to the corners of the eye.

That’s where you’ll start pulling eye eyelashes, so the glue there needs to dissolve first.

When you’re done, wash your face and use a soft towel to pat your skin.

  1. Use coconut or extra virgin oil.

Coconut and extra virgin oil will quickly get the eyelash glue off your skin.

Apply oil on a cotton ball and rub your eyelids, especially the roots of your eyelashes.

After the oil stops dripping your eyelashes, press the cotton ball on the eyelash roots, and don’t miss any portion with glue.

You mustn’t press the cotton ball too close to your eyes. First, ensure you don’t have too much oil on your eyelashes before you go to the roots.

You’ll notice that the glue starts dissolving immediately after your start applying the oil.

Even if there are hard blobs on your eyelashes, the glue will moisten and dissolve them in no time.

When you’re done, clean your eyes with water. Even though oil shouldn’t irritate your eyes, it’s better to be safe.

Warning – don’t use this method if you have acne-prone or oily skin. The oil may clog your pores and irritate your skin.

This method also makes the lash bands harder to be reused in the future. The glue won’t bond to them too well!

This method also works to remove hair glue from hair.

  1. Use a waterproof eye makeup remover

Eye makeup removers come in multiple varieties:

  • Oil-based
  • Solvents
  • Lotions
  • Gels
  • Liquid-oil-based
  • Micellar water
  • Eye makeup remover pads

Glue and oil don’t mix well. I recommend an oil-based eye makeup remover to get the eyelash glue off your lashes. However, oil also makes it harder to reuse the lashes.

Use a soft and gentle product like Lancôme Bi Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover. Once you have it, soak a cotton swab or pad in it.

Don’t oversoak it so it’s dripping, but don’t soak it too little. It should be saturated with the makeup remover.

Then, run the cotton swab along the upper eyelid at the base of the eyelashes.

The makeup remover will seep between your natural and artificial lashes, softening the glue.

Wait 3-5 minutes so the makeup remover can dissolve the glue completely.

Then, start pulling the eyelashes from the outer corner until they come off completely.

Apply more makeup remover on the cotton swab and rub it along the eyelid.

This will remove any residual glue from your eyelids. If necessary, rub with your fingers until the glue comes off completely.

Wash your face with water and use a soft towel to dry your face.

  1. Use eye cream

Eye creams that contain natural oils (jojoba, argan, sunflower, etc.) can get the eyelash glue off your skin.

You also get the added benefit of the eye moisturizing effect while removing the eyelash glue.

Apply a layer of cream on the upper eyelid and ensure the cream touches the lashes’ roots.

Do this for each eye so you can see what you’re doing.

After you cover the eyelid with a thin layer of eye cream, wait for 3-5 minutes.

Then, try removing the lashes slowly and see if they come off.

The glue should have dissolved but if necessary, apply cream again.

The oil-based eye cream doesn’t irritate your skin either, so you can use it whenever you need to!

Conclusion

Eyelash glue can be a hassle to remove, but there are fast solutions you can try.

Anything oil-based will quickly remove the eyelash glue off the eyelashes.

A how shower and steam will also achieve the same effect if you don’t want to use makeup remover.

Lash glue dissolvers are also made just for getting eyelash glue off the eyelid.

Don’t worry about eyelash glue ever again!

Does Vaseline remove eyelash glue?

Yes, it does. Wash your face beforehand, and apply the Vaseline to the upper eyelash.
Do it just like you would apply eye cream or glue dissolver.
The Vaseline will soften the glue and let you remove the lashes in 3-5 minutes.
Then, wash your face with warm water and remove the glue residues from your eyelids.
Even though Vaseline isn’t a go-to product for removing eyelash glue, it works.
And that’s all that matters!

What happens if you get lash glue in your eyes?

Hardened lash glue can scratch your cornea and lead to further scarring. It can also irritate and make your eyes itchy. In some cases, allergic reactions may appear because lash glue contains dangerous chemical compounds like formaldehyde.
Some symptoms include exhaustion, sluggishness, stuffy nose, and other flu-like symptoms.
Ensure you ask your cosmetician what glue they use before getting eyelash extensions.
If your eyes start swelling and become red after getting an eyelash extension, you’re allergic to the eyelash glue.
Remove it immediately!
