Is Nail Glue Bad for Your Teeth?

Nail glue is bad for your teeth. Besides containing toxic elements, it can damage your tooth enamel significantly, making your teeth more vulnerable to cavities and high sensitivities.

The enamel is the outer coating of your teeth. Tooth enamel contains about 95% minerals, primarily calcium and phosphorus, 4% water, and 1% proteins.

Once the tooth enamel is damaged, it cannot be restored.

If you want to learn more about how to nail glue, super glue, and other adhesives can affect your teeth and how you can remove nail glue from your teeth, keep reading.

Your Tooth Enamel: What You Need To Know Before You Add Any Glue To Your Teeth

Tooth enamel is what you see when you look at your teeth. It is the outermost covering of your teeth.

Enamel is considered to be the hardest substance in the human body.

The high percentage of minerals it contains (95%) gives it the strength and resilience it needs to protect the teeth.

The role of the enamel is to protect the sensitive inner layers of the teeth from acids and painful cavities.

It also protects the cells and nerves inside your teeth.

Enamel doesn’t contain living cells. Therefore, it cannot regrow.

Once the enamel is damaged by glue or anything else, it cannot regenerate. This means it cannot be restored.

This will leave the more sensitive and vulnerable layers of your teeth exposed.

What Happens If I Add Glue To My Teeth?

It has become an ongoing trend to glue several different things to teeth, such as:

  • Vampire fangs
  • Decorative gems
  • Homemade braces
  • And other

Adding nail glue, super glue, or any glue to your teeth could damage the enamel, especially if you do this more than once.

But it’s not just the enamel.

If you use too much glue, some may end up on your gums or inside your cheeks. Wiping it off could be difficult as there aren’t many products that would be safe to use inside your mouth to remove the glue.

This could also lead to further complications.

Decorating Your Teeth With Gems: What To Know

We get it.

When something looks cool, everyone wants to jump on the trend.

A trend has surfaced where people add jewels to their teeth.

Before jumping on this trend, here is what you should be aware of.

If you glue or secure any jewel or gem to your teeth with the wrong type of bond, this could lead to not only discoloration of your tooth but also damage.

Tooth gems could:

  • Cause cavities
  • Lead to gum disease
  • Affect sensitive gums

Gluing Vampire Fangs To Your Teeth: What To Know

Gluing vampires to teeth has become a wide-spreading trend, especially around Halloween.

So here is what you need to know before using nail glue or superglue to add fangs to your teeth.

Both nail glue and superglue contain ingredients that are considered toxic. So this alone should be a no-no for it to be in contact with your teeth and inside your mouth.

And this isn’t all.

These types of adhesives create a very strong bond.

If you use nail glue or super glue to attach the vampire fangs to your teeth, you could end up fracturing your teeth once you try to pull them off.

What Glue Is Safe To Use On My Teeth?

Dental-grade resin glue or acrylic resin is the best glue you can use on your teeth.

You will find that these adhesives are more expensive than nail glue, super glue, or crazy glue. This is because they are specifically created in the mouth and are generally used by dentists.

If you want to attach vampire fangs or gems to your teeth, only do so using denture glue.

How To Get Nail Glue Off Your Teeth

If you added nail glue to your teeth and are looking for ways to remove it, it can be done.

We recommend seeking medical or dental assistance to safely and effectively remove the glue.

Generally, one can use several household items to remove glue, but some you shouldn’t use inside your mouth, such as acetone.

You can try gently removing the nail glue from your teeth with vegetable oil or peanut butter as a safe option.

  1. Dab the dip of your finger in vegetable or coconut oil, or peanut butter, and apply it to the glue
  2. Let it soak the glue for a few minutes
  3. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to rub the oil or peanut butter into the glue gently
  4. If the glue isn’t softening and coming off, re-apply oil or peanut butter to it
  5. Let it soak for a few minutes
  6. Repeat these steps as many times as necessary
  7. Once all glue has been removed, gently brush your teeth with a clean brush and toothpaste

Conclusion

Nail glue is bad for your teeth.

You may be tempted to get on the train of trends, gluing vampire fangs to your teeth or decorating your teeth with jewels or gems for that extra sparkle, but do not use nail glue or super glue for any of this.

Nail glue can damage your enamel and even your gums.
