What Adhesive Sticks to Brick?

If you want to stick items to brick, you need to use adhesive made to brick, such as masonry glue, construction glue, or outdoor landscaping glue.

With these different types of glues, you must make sure that you choose the variation with a formulation that will bond to brick.

We will explore some of the most popular and effective adhesives that stick to brick, so keep reading.

The Types Of Adhesives That Stick To Brick And How To Use Them

There isn’t just one type of adhesive that sticks to the brick.

Generally, mortar has been and continues to be the go-to material to build and bond construction materials such as bricks.

But when you already have a brick onto which you want to bond something, you don’t even need to drill into the brick wall, as various adhesives offer an effective and lasting solution.

So let’s have a closer look at these.

Masonry Glue

Masonry adhesive can have various functions, such as sticking a brick back in place, fixing a veneer, and other quick fixes.

Masonry adhesive generally comes in a cartridge that requires a caulking gun.

Follow these steps to apply masonry glue to the brick:

  1. Prepare the surface – remove any stains, dirt, or dust and allow them to fully dry
  2. Cut the applicator tip for a smaller hole to gain better control and higher precision during application
  3. Apply the adhesive in a continuous flow, maintaining an even dose of adhesive application
  4. Align the item you want to stick to the brick and press it into the glue
  5. Keep the pressure on until the glue dries, and if possible, use tools to continue applying pressure while the adhesive fully cures
  6. Allow the glue to cure fully – this usually takes 24 hours or more

If you need to remove any excess glue, use a clean cloth and acetone. You can also scrape it off the brick surface with a scraper or utility knife once it fully cures.

XTREME Bond Masonry Adhesive

This heavy-duty masonry adhesive provides a strong and durable bond even in extreme temperatures.

It will bond to both wet and frozen brick surfaces.

This high-quality adhesive provides a permanent bonding to brick.

It reacts when it comes in contact with the moisture or water vapors in the air. It adheres and dries quickly.

It takes about 1 – 2 hours to dry, but it needs a minimum of 24 hours to cure fully.

Loctite Construction Adhesive

Loctite offers more than one construction adhesive that is highly compatible with brick.

Loctite PL 375 Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive

Loctite PL 375 Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive bonds to multiple surfaces, including brick.

It is great for indoor and outdoor uses providing a professional strength bond. It is also ideal for bridging minor gaps where needed.

The professional-grade bonding capability of this adhesive offers a long-lasting bond.

It is a water-based formulation that is low in odor and non-flammable.

It is easy to clean.

This brick adhesive requires a minimum of 48 hours to cure fully.

Loctite PL Premium Fast Grab Construction Adhesive

Loctite PL Premium Fast Grab Construction Adhesive is another heavy-duty glue that performs great on brick.

The fast-grab formulation of this glue holds onto the two surfaces very quickly, reducing the need for bracing when used on a vertical surface.

This construction glue is 8x stronger in comparison to traditional construction adhesives. This impressive strength is achieved by its 100% polyurethane formula.

You can use it indoors and outdoors as it has great weather-resistant capabilities.

This brick adhesive needs a minimum of 24 hours to cure.

Loctite PL 500 Landscape Block Adhesive

Loctite PL 500 Landscape Block Adhesive is another glue that sticks well to brick.

This variation is for exterior use only, but you can use it on wet and dry brick.

Here are the other features of this brick glue:

  • Heavy duty adhesive
  • All weather application
  • Waterproof and resistant to all types of weather
  • Delivers a durable and strong bond
  • You can gun it in cold weather
  • Fills gaps

This brick adhesive needs 2 – 7 days to cure fully.

How to use Loctite Adhesives on brick:

Everything starts at the preparation stage. Before applying the adhesive to the brick, or any other surface, you need to ensure they are clean (removing any stains, dirt, dust, and debris) and structurally sound.

You cannot stick anything to a brick wall and expect it to hold if the structural integrity of the brick wall isn’t good.

When the surfaces are ready, follow these steps:

  1. Attach the cartridge to a caulking gun
  2. Cut the tip at a 45-degree angle – the smaller the hole, the more control and precision you gain
  3. Puncture the inner seal
  4. Apply the glue using the caulk gun in a continuous bead to one surface
  5. Press the two surfaces together within 15 minutes of application
  6. Allow the adhesive to fully cure

Read the manufacturer’s instructions on whether or not you need to support and secure your project in place while the glue dries and cures. Some adhesives require this, while others don’t.

When choosing an adhesive for brick, you need to pick one based on the factors in which your project will be, such as indoors or outdoors, temperature, weather, or moisture.

Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate

We bet you aren’t surprised that Gorilla Glue is part of this list. Gorilla glue makes sure to have products for all needs.

Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate is very tough and 100% waterproof, and it provides an incredibly durable bond on a brick in all weather conditions.

Here are the impressive features of this adhesive that works great on brick:

  • Provides an instant grab
  • It is paintable cures white
  • Works under water
  • Flexible
  • Shrink proof
  • Gap filling
  • Easy to dispense
  • Low odod
  • Non-foaming formula
  • Great for both indoors and outdoors
  • Application temperature: best above 40 degree Fahrenheit
  • When cures, the temperature range is -40 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit

Follow these steps to apply Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive Ultimate:

  1. Prepare the surfaces you will bond together – remove dirt, stains, grease, debris, dust
  2. Unscrew the cartridge’s nozzle
  3. Cut the tip above the threads
  4. Replace nozzle
  5. Cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle – the smaller the bead size, the more control, and precision you will have when you apply the glue
  6. Apply the glue to one surface, creating a zig-zag pattern – if the brick surface is uneven, fill in the gaps with this glue
  7. Press the two surfaces together within 10 minutes

If you are gluing a heavy item to the brick, use temporary support while the glue dries and cures.

Adiseal Adhesive and Sealant

Adiseal Adhesive and Sealant is yet another strong glue that sticks very well to brick.

For several reasons, the adhesive is a great product to use on brick, so let’s check these out.

  • Remains permanently flexible
  • Absorbs vibration
  • Allows items to contract and expand without weakening the bond
  • Waterproof
  • Works great in dry and wet environments, even underwater
  • No priming is required, but the surfaces need to be properly cleaned
  • It doesn’t stain the brick (nor bleed into it)
  • Exceptional gap-filling properties
  • High initial grab

The application steps for this adhesive are the same as described above with other adhesives, so here is a very short recap of it:

  1. Clean the surfaces properly
  2. Apply the glue to one material covering as much of the surface as you can
  3. Firmly push the two surfaces together
  4. Generally, you won’t need support, but this depends on the type of project

Conclusion

The adhesives described in this guide are not the only ones that will stick to brick, but these are the ones that offer exceptionally durable bonding results.

For best results, make sure you properly prepare both surfaces and allow the full curing time.
