Types of Glue for Magnets

There are different types of glue that you could use for bonding magnets to other materials.

Depending on your requirements and circumstance, you may want to choose a specific glue type from the list:

Two-Part Epoxy

There’s almost nothing that a two-part epoxy glue can’t bond. It’s the best adhesive for magnets, thanks to its versatile formulation.

It can bond with wood, metals, plastics, ceramics, fabrics, magnets, paper, and more.

The epoxy resin also won’t shrink as it dries, has high water and heat resistance, and dries quite fast.

Two-part epoxies do require clamping, and they also don’t have too much impact resistance.

Still, two-part epoxy glue is one of the best choices for magnet bonding. My top pick on this list is a two-part epoxy as well.

Super Glue

Super glue is a great choice when working with magnets, thanks to quick-drying and instant bonding.

Most importantly, super glue can bond with most materials except the smoothest plastics.

I wouldn’t try to bond magnets to metal because metal is very smooth, as well.

Super glue is also very resistant to water, heat, and moisture, so it’ll stay strong throughout the years.

Its durability is only matched by its fast-drying time. You don’t need to clamp it down, either.

However, it’s also because you may not have time to fix your mistakes since the glue sets very quickly.

Silicone Adhesive

Silicone adhesives don’t shrink when they dry out, which is super helpful when working with magnets.

These glues are also resistant to extreme heat, water, and chemical solvents.

However, silicone adhesives aren’t great regarding impact resistance and bonding strength.

Liquid Nails

Last but not least, the liquid nail is an industrial-grade adhesive that’s only useful for large-scale projects.

Its grip strength is super powerful and durable, so you shouldn’t worry for a couple of years.

Its impact resistance is very high, as well. Liquid nail adhesive also resists rusting and is very easy to apply.

Its thickness makes it harder to clean up, but it won’t run off when you try to apply it.

Unsuitable glues include hot glue, gorilla glue, and Mod Podge.

Best Glue for Magnets

Below you can find my recommendations for the best glue for magnets.

1. Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy

Pros

  • #1 best glue for magnets
  • Can glue a neodymium magnet
  • Can be used to to glue magnet to magnet
  • Works with rare earth magnets

Cons

  • Not great for large scale applications

If you want a great glue that’s helpful for most projects, then you shouldn’t look further than Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy.

This type of adhesive is so versatile it can bond with most materials, including glass, plastics, ceramics, metals, wood, and even magnets.

My guide on the best glue for glass will give you additional product tips.

Once dry, the bond is permanent and highly durable to most hazards.

You can use Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy for repairs and filing out cracks, but most importantly, this adhesive is great at bonding magnets to other materials.

You will need to mix it beforehand, but it’s not that complicated. Fortunately, the applicator syringe gives you exact quantities to mix.

Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy is not that great for large-scale applications, but when it comes to small projects and repairs, it’s the best glue out there.

It also has high resistance to heat, water, and chemical solvents. The glue hardens and becomes dry in 6 minutes, and the curing process finishes in 30 minutes.

You will need to clamp it down, but nothing too stressful.

2. Gorilla 7700104 Super Glue Gel

Pros

  • Can glue neodymium magnets
  • Works with a ceramic magnet too
  • Perfect for gluing magnets
  • Works with permanent magnets

Cons

  • Doesn’t work on plastic
  • Limited heat resistance

Second on our list is another Gorilla product, this time a super glue gel. It can bond any material in a few minutes and has near-instant setting times.

The no-run formula makes it possible to glue magnets vertically to other materials.

You should know that this glue gets dry in 45 seconds so that you won’t have too much adjustment time.

The good news is that it doesn’t need any clamping whatsoever. As soon as you glue the magnet down, the hardening process begins.

Sometimes, it can finish drying in as little as 20 seconds.

Fortunately, once it becomes dry, Gorilla Super Glue Gel has a very high tensile strength and resists impact shocks, water, heat, and solvents.

Moreover, the small applicator allows for greater accuracy and ease of use. This is helpful when you’re on a tight schedule and you have to work fast.

Gorilla Super Glue gel works on various materials, including paper, wood, metals, plastic, ceramic, leather, rubber, and more.

For additional tips, check out my guide on the best glues for ceramic repair.

However, it doesn’t work for all types of plastic. It also has limited heat resistance, so I recommend you not use it in hot environments.

3. Liquid Nails Extreme Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive

Pros

  • Great for neodymium magnets
  • Compatible with ceramic magnets and any strong magnet
  • Works on any magnet surface
  • Works with refrigerator magnets

Cons

  • Is very thick

Perhaps you need a type of glue fit for large applications, like when you want to glue large magnets to other materials.

That’s when Liquid Nails Extreme Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive comes into play.

This adhesive is resistant to cold, heat, humidity, UV light, and even moisture. So, you can use it for indoor and outside applications equally.

Once it dries out, the bond becomes impregnable, and almost nothing can destroy it.

It also has excellent impact resistance, so you’ll have a hard time dislodging the bond with drop damage.

As for versatility, this adhesive works on ceramic, tile, metal, plastic, wood, magnets, glass, and more.

Liquid Nails Adhesive is made for industrial-grade applications, so it would be overkill to get this for small projects.

The substance is very thick, and this could be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on your needs.

My guide on liquid nails vs. wood glue will offer you additional tips.

4. Gorilla 103859 Micro Precise Super Glue

Pros

  • Works on neodymium magnets
  • Can adhere to any smooth surface
  • Creates a strong bond
  • Bonds with aluminum

Cons

  • Limited heat resistance

Gorilla Micro Precise Super Glue is fit for small projects that require a lot of finesse and precision.

The thick formula and precise applicator tip go a long way in ensuring accuracy and a no-mess experience.

You shouldn’t need more than a few drops to bond magnets to any material, including paper, fabric, plastic, metal, wood, and more.

Look at my guide on the best glues for paper glass for more recommendations.

Being a super glue, it dries in about 10-45 seconds, depending on how much glue you dispensed.

There’s almost no working time, so if you make a mistake, you’re in big trouble.

Gorilla Precise Super Glue also has limited heat resistance but excellent impact resistance, and it also doesn’t require clamping.

There are quite a few advantages that should make up for all the disadvantages, though.

Its versatility, quick-drying time, and high tensile strength are great for working with magnets.

5. Loctite 681952-6 Super Glue Plastics Bonding System

Pros

  • Hardens in 10 seconds
  • Creates a strong bond

Lastly, the Loctite Super Glue Plastics Bonding System is a 2-part epoxy adhesive that can bond with magnets, wood, plastics, metal, fabric, glass, and more.

Its fast drying time and no-clamping nature make it ideal for quick applications that don’t require too much work.

You will need to mix the two components beforehand, so it may get messy sometimes.

In about 10 seconds, the glue will harden completely, and you won’t be able to move the materials anymore.

Still, the bond is incredibly powerful and durable and resistant to water, heat, and solvents.

Wrap Up

To sum things up, Gorilla 2 Part Epoxy is the best glue for bonding magnets to other materials, including other magnets.

It has many advantages cumulated into a single product, something that most other glues can’t boast about.

I’ve chosen this adhesive for a variety of reasons, such as:
