How To Remove Super Glue From Quartz Countertop?

You can safely and effectively remove super glue from quartz countertops with 3 simple items that most likely you already have in your home:

  • New razor blade
  • Acetone
  • Cotton ball or disk
  • Cotton swab (or gentle toothbrush)
  • Warm soapy water
  • Clean cloth

This guide will show you how to use the above items and specific steps to take to get super glue off your quartz countertop without causing unwanted damage to its surface.

Quartz countertops are a kitchen’s crowning jewel, and no one is happy when super glue gets on them. Super glue is one of the strongest adhesives used in several gluing projects.

It dries fast and creates a strong and resistant bond to the material it is in contact with, including a quartz countertop.

How To Remove Super Glue From Quartz Countertop?

Super glue is great at creating a love-hate relationship with its user. All is well while this adhesive does what we need to – glue things together and keep them together.

But once it guts to spots and places we don’t want, that is a whole new situation.

We can almost feel the sense of shock, frustration, then desperation the moment you lay eyes on the super glue resting on your beautiful quartz countertop.

Your first instinct may be to get out the cleaning products you usually use to clean your kitchen and hope they will do the magic. It most likely will not. But something else will.

You will need the following items to remove super glue from a quartz countertop:

  • New razor blade
  • Acetone
  • Cotton ball or disk
  • Cotton swab (or gentle toothbrush)
  • Warm soapy water
  • Clean cloth

Follow these easy steps:

  1. Grab a new razor blade
  2. Hold the razor blade almost flat (as flat as you can)
  3. Remove most of the super glue with slow and gentle hand motions without scraping the surface.
  4. When most of the adhesive stain is removed with the razor blade, soak a cotton ball (or cotton disc) in acetone.
  5. Place it over the super glue stain and let it soak through for at least 10 minutes or until the cotton ball (or cotton disc) starts to dry.
  6. If the glue stain is still very dry, soak another cotton ball (or disc), place it over the adhesive spot, and let it sit until it starts to dry.
  7. Repeat this step until the super glue is starting to loosen
  8. Dab a cotton swab (or gentle toothbrush) in acetone
  9. Use a circular motion and apply gentle pressure to remove the rest of the super glue stain
  10. Continue doing this until all residue is gone
  11. Clean the affected surface with warm water and soap using a soft clean cloth

Practice Caution When Removing Super Glue From Quartz Countertop

If your quartz countertop is new and you feel nervous about using acetone on it for the first time, test the product first.

Pick a spot on your countertop that is either fully hidden or hardly noticeable, dab a cotton ball or swab in acetone, and apply it to a spot.

Wait for at least 15 minutes (or more). Check to see if there is any discoloration caused to the surface.

The razor blade and acetone method is the most effective one you can use to get super glue off your quartz countertop. These countertops are quite resistant even to scratching, but they aren’t scratchproof.

Don’t get too close to the surface when using a razor blade.

While scraping off and peeling off layers of the super glue that has hardened on your quartz countertop, constantly check the angle you are working it, and ensure that you aren’t accidentally also working the surface of your countertop.

Safety Measures When Removing Super Glue From Quartz Countertops

There are a few safety measures we highly recommend when having to remove adhesive from countertops.

Depending on how much super glue you have sitting on your quartz countertop, removing it could be a long process.

While working the glue, ensure the airflow in the room is good. Open up some windows to let fresh air come in from the outside.

Use gloves. Even though super glue won’t stick to your hands and fingers after it has fully dried, you could be working with the acetone for a while.

It could dry your skin when acetone comes in direct contact with your skin, especially for longer than a few seconds or minutes.

Using gloves can prevent dryness in your skin. If you don’t have gloves or choose to work without them, wash your hands with warm soapy water after removing all the super glue from your quartz countertop.

Then, keep them hydrated and nurtured with a good moisturizing hand cream to avoid dryness and prevent further unpleasantries, such as cracks or irritation.

How To Prevent Accidental Super Glue Spills On Your Quartz Countertop?

As in many other situations, prevention is the best solution.

Now that you know how to remove super glue from your quartz countertop effectively, if this unwanted gluey situation presents itself, let’s see how you can avoid these unpleasantries going forward.

If you, or perhaps your kids, will be using super glue for your gluing projects, implement a few strategies to save you time and hassle and prevent unwanted adhesive spills on your quartz countertop and other surfaces.

  • Take it outside

If you are working on a project requiring super glue, try to take it outside. If the size and type of the project allow you to take it outside and safely leave it there until the glue fully dries and bonds, then do it this way.

  • Place a protective layer between the surface and your project

You can use anything you won’t mind throwing out. You can use either newspaper, an old rag, or card boxes to put on top of your quartz countertop.

Glue things together on top of a protective layer and not directly on the surface of your countertop.

Conclusion

You can remove super glue from quartz countertops using:

  • New razor blade
  • Acetone
  • Cotton ball or disk
  • Cotton swab (or gentle toothbrush)
  • Warm soapy water
  • Clean cloth

Even though prevention is the best practice, sometimes accidents happen. Thankfully, there is a solution to getting super glue off your quartz countertop without damaging its surface.

We know that you’ll be so focused on removing the glue stain that you won’t consider implementing some safety measures. These are important as well, especially if the process takes longer.

While working with super glue and acetone, ensure you are in an area that is well ventilated and allows you to breathe clean and fresh air.

But your lungs aren’t the only part you should be mindful about. Your hands are in direct contact with the dried super glue and acetone.

Both of these could cause dryness to your skin; if left untreated, the dryness could be followed by skin irritation or cracks.

If you can, always use gloves for protection. Wash your hands well, and apply moisturizing hand cream when you finish.

When doing super glue projects on your quartz countertop, think of ways and strategies you can use that will protect your countertop even if the glue spills.

Use protective layers, don’t work directly on your quartz countertop.

This will protect your countertop but also save you a ton of time if you just throw out a piece of newspaper instead of having to remove hardened super glue from your countertop.
